Path of Exile Steam Launch Options & Standalone client Launch Options

Path of Exile (Poe) is one of the most played games strategy games on the planet. With its huge number of players and free to play system it has become the favorite of a lot of gamers. Many Gamers who were playing the game on steam wanted to know if any steam launch options could help them boost performance and FPS in-game. I have already written a guide on the path of exile graphics settings that can help boost FPS. So to help those gamers here are the most recommended steam launch options for the Path of exile.

Steam Launch Options Path of Exile (POE)

The process of adding steam launch options in the path of exile is pretty straight forward.

For the Steam version, the launch options are as follows
  • Open Steam App
  • Navigate to Game Library tab
  • Right-click Path of Exile Game

  • Select Properties
  • Navigate to General tab
  • Select the Set Launch Options

This launch option for POE disables the startup intro video. It does not boost FPS but helps in faster start-up and can help you save time. I recommend using it

This option Disable Direct3D 9Ex mode which can help boost FPS on low-end systems. Make sure you are not using alt+tab a lot since removing this option tends to cause issues with switching tabs (alt+tab).

As the name suggests it puts path of exile in high priory mode so that more CPU and GPU resources are provided to the path of exile. It does help a lot since many of us don’t check background programs very often.

This is one of the more controversial options in POE since this option forces the game to Wait for preloading to finish during startup. For low-end systems, this can boost performance since the game does not need to load all the stuff in the background. But this causes the game to not finish the initial loading screen until it has fully loaded all of the stuff that would otherwise be background-loaded. This can make the first startup quite long and on systems with really low RAM can cause issues. I recommend that you use a system with at least 8GB of Ram while using this option. You can also use 4GB but in case you have issues you need to remove this option.

Launch Options For standalone client

Some gamers like to use the standalone version of the game. That’s fine as well. You can add these launch options to the standalone version as follows

  1. Create a shortcut for the Client.exe  from the path of exile folder
  2. Right-click the shortcut you just made
  3. Select Properties
  4. Now navigate to Shortcut tab
  5. Add the following options to the Target: “…\Path of Exile\Client.exe”, after the quotes

--nologo Disables the animated intro along with the sound.
--nodx9ex Disable Direct3D 9Ex mode.
--waitforpreload Wait for preloading to finish during startup.
