StatTrak vs Souvenir vs Normal Skins in CS2: What’s the Difference and Are They Worth It?

You find the skin you want on the market. Then you notice there are three versions of it: the normal one, a StatTrak one that costs more, and a Souvenir one covered in tournament stickers that costs something completely different.

They all look like the same skin. So what are you actually paying for? Here’s what each version is, how you get it, and when the extra money makes sense.

Normal Skins

This is the standard version. Same design, same float system, no extras. If you just want a skin to look nice in your hands, normal is the best value. You get the full look without paying for features you might not care about.

StatTrak Skins

A StatTrak skin has a small digital counter built into the weapon model. It counts the kills you get with it and shows the number right on the gun while you play.

A few things worth knowing:

  • It only counts your kills. If a teammate picks up your StatTrak gun and starts fragging, the counter doesn’t count their kills as yours.
  • It’s rarer from cases. When you open a case, there’s a small chance the skin comes out as StatTrak. That’s why StatTrak versions usually cost more.
  • StatTrak knives exist, StatTrak gloves don’t. Gloves are never StatTrak.
  • The counter stays with the skin. If you trade a StatTrak skin, the kill count goes with it.
  • You can name tag it. Name tags work on StatTrak skins just like normal ones.

StatTrak is popular with players who like watching the number climb. There’s something satisfying about checking your AK and seeing 4,000 kills on it. It also adds a tiny bit of pressure, since everyone can see your counter. No pressure, but your teammates now know exactly how many rounds you’ve won with your eco Deagle.

Souvenir Skins

Souvenir skins come from Souvenir Packages tied to CS2 Major tournaments. Each one comes with stickers already applied: the event logo, the two teams that played the match, and usually the autograph of a player from that match.

They’re basically collectibles. A Souvenir skin is a little piece of a specific match from a specific Major.

What to know:

  • They can’t be StatTrak. A skin is either StatTrak or Souvenir, never both.
  • They can’t be used in trade ups. Souvenir skins aren’t allowed in trade up contracts.
  • Prices are all over the place. Many Souvenir skins are cheap, especially low rarity ones. But Souvenir versions of famous rare skins can cost far more than the normal version, because so few exist.
  • The stickers are part of the value. A Souvenir from a famous match, or with a popular player’s autograph, can be worth much more than another copy of the same skin.

Which Version Costs More?

VersionUsual Price Compared to Normal
NormalBase price
StatTrakUsually higher, often noticeably more on popular skins
Souvenir (common skins)Can be close to normal, sometimes cheaper
Souvenir (rare, famous skins)Can be many times the normal price

Prices change constantly, so always compare all three versions on the market before buying. Sometimes the gap is huge. Sometimes it’s a few cents.

Are They Worth It?

Buy normal if: you mainly want the skin to look good in game. It’s the best value for most players.

Buy StatTrak if: you’ll actually use the weapon a lot, you enjoy seeing your kill count, or the price difference is small. A StatTrak on a weapon you use every round makes more sense than one on a gun you never pick up.

Buy Souvenir if: you like collecting, you’re a fan of the team or player on the stickers, or you want a skin that feels connected to a moment in pro CS history.

Skip both if: money is tight. A clean normal skin with a good float will look better in your hands than a high float StatTrak at the same price.
