Is Xbox Game Pass Worth It in India?

Game Pass sounds like a dream on paper. Hundreds of games for one monthly price, including big new releases on day one. Then you look at the price in rupees and your wallet starts sweating.

Game Pass in India has had a rough couple of years on pricing. Microsoft raised prices sharply in October 2025, then cut some of them again in April 2026 after a lot of complaints. So whether it’s worth it depends a lot on which plan you pick and how you actually play.

Here’s a clear breakdown of every plan, what it costs, and who should actually pay for it.

Game Pass Prices in India (October 2026)

PlanMonthly PriceWorks OnDay-One New Games
Game Pass Essential₹499Xbox, PC, cloudNo
Game Pass Premium₹699Xbox, PC, cloudNo, Xbox games arrive later
PC Game Pass₹879PC onlyYes
Game Pass Ultimate₹1,089Xbox, PC, cloudYes

Prices change from time to time, and Microsoft sometimes runs first-month offers for new members. Always check the price on the official Xbox India store before you subscribe.

What Each Plan Gets You

Game Pass Essential (₹499)

This is the entry plan. It includes online multiplayer on Xbox consoles, a small rotating library of games, and access to cloud gaming. Think of it as the “I mostly play online with friends on Xbox” plan.

For PC players, it’s the weakest value. The library is small compared to the other plans.

Game Pass Premium (₹699)

Premium gives you a much bigger library of games. Microsoft’s own games come to Premium, but not on launch day. They usually arrive within about a year of release.

This one is a bit awkward. It’s cheaper than Ultimate, but if you want new games on day one, it doesn’t give you that. And if you only play on PC, PC Game Pass costs a bit more and gives you day-one games.

PC Game Pass (₹879)

This is the plan most Indian PC players should look at first. You get the full PC library, new Microsoft games on day one, and EA Play included, which adds a big list of EA titles.

What you don’t get is cloud gaming or anything for Xbox consoles. It’s strictly for people who install and play games on a Windows PC.

Game Pass Ultimate (₹1,089)

Ultimate is everything: console and PC libraries, day-one releases, EA Play, cloud gaming and online multiplayer on Xbox. It’s the plan that makes sense if you own an Xbox, or if you play across a console, PC and phone.

One change worth knowing: Microsoft has said future Call of Duty games will no longer launch on Game Pass on day one. Existing Call of Duty games already in the library stay. If CoD was your main reason to subscribe, factor that in.

Cloud Gaming in India

Xbox Cloud Gaming is officially available in India, which matters more here than in many countries. It lets you stream games to a phone, a weak laptop or a smart TV without installing anything or owning powerful hardware.

The catch is your internet. Cloud gaming needs a fast, stable connection, ideally on broadband or 5G with low ping. On a patchy connection you’ll see blurry visuals and delayed inputs. Fine for story games, not great for competitive shooters.

Game Pass vs Buying Games on Steam

This is the real question. Here’s a simple way to think about it.

 Game PassBuying on Steam
Upfront costLow, monthlyHigh, per game
You own the gamesNo, you lose access if you stop payingYes, forever
Regional pricingMonthly fee in rupeesMany games have Indian regional prices
Big discountsOccasional member discountsHuge seasonal sales
Games leave the libraryYes, games rotate outNever
Good for trying many gamesExcellentExpensive

A year of PC Game Pass costs roughly ₹10,500. That’s about the price of a few new full-price games. If you’d play five or more Game Pass games in a year, Game Pass usually wins. If you play one or two games for hundreds of hours, buying them on Steam during a sale is cheaper in the long run.

Who Should Get Game Pass in India?

Get PC Game Pass if: you play on a Windows PC, like trying lots of different games, and want new Microsoft releases on day one.

Get Ultimate if: you own an Xbox, or you want to stream games to your phone or a low-end laptop through cloud gaming.

Get Essential if: you mainly play online multiplayer on Xbox and don’t care much about the library.

Skip Game Pass if: you mostly play free games like Valorant or CS2, you stick to one or two games for months, or your internet is too unreliable for the cloud features you’d be paying for.

How to Get More Value From Game Pass

Subscribe in bursts. You don’t have to stay subscribed all year. Join when there’s a game you really want to play, finish it, then cancel. Rejoin when the next big release lands.

Plan around big launches. Pay for one month when a major day-one game arrives and binge it.

Check what’s leaving. Games rotate out of the library. The Game Pass app shows what’s leaving soon, so finish those first.

Use member discounts. Members get discounts on buying games from the library, which helps if you want to keep a game after it leaves.

Be careful with cheap codes. Buy codes from official stores or authorized resellers. Very cheap codes from random sites are often region-locked or fraudulent.

The Verdict

Game Pass is still good value in India, but only on the right plan. For most PC players, PC Game Pass at ₹879 is the sweet spot. For Xbox owners and anyone who wants cloud gaming, Ultimate at ₹1,089 makes sense. Premium is the hardest plan to recommend, since PC players get more from PC Game Pass and Xbox players who want new games need Ultimate anyway.

And if your gaming mostly happens in two or three free shooters, keep your money. You don’t need a subscription to get better at CS2.
